Pig bric-a-brac inside this redbrick building tips you off to the specialty here. Pork is the star of the deliciously messy barbecue served by this casual neighborhood joint off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, which also has beef, poultry, seafood, and smoked tofu. A saucy pulled pork sandwich and collard greens washes down nicely with a strawberry soda.

Russel Street Bar-B-Que is about four blocks from my house. It is not fancy but you are always greeted with a smile. The hush puppies are a good start, the smoked turkey salad is huge or you could go with a sandwich and side. The problem is you have to limit yourself to one side. The mac and cheese is great as are the greens, yams and probably everything else. The babyback ribs melt in your mouth. If you have room the turtle sundae is great. They have a secret supplier for the ice cream and make the chocolate sauce in house.
It is good solid food at a good price.
