Portland Restaurants

Russell St. Bar-B-Que

Updated 05/30/2013

Fodor's Review

Pig-themed bric-a-brac indicates the specialty at this casual neighborhood joint, known for its fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs, but there's also beef, poultry, seafood, and smoked tofu dishes on the menu. Big eaters might consider the meatapalooza tray, with your choice of three meats. The candied yams, barbecue baked beans, hush puppies, mac and cheese, and braised mess o' collard greens make excellent accompaniments.

Good food and good people

Russel Street Bar-B-Que is about four blocks from my house. It is not fancy but you are always greeted with a smile. The hush puppies are a good start, the smoked turkey salad is huge or you could go with a sandwich and side. The problem is you have to limit yourself to one side. The mac and cheese is great as are the greens, yams and probably everything else. The babyback ribs melt in your mouth. If you have room the turtle sundae is great.

They have a secret supplier for the ice cream and make the chocolate sauce in house. It is good solid food at a good price.
