Fremont-Winema National Forest

Fremont-Winema National Forest Review

The 1.2-million-acre Fremont-Winema National Forest is 2 mi north of Lakeview and supports small populations of cougars, bobcats, and black bears, as well as the bald eagle and the peregrine falcon. There are 600 mi of streams, as well as many lakes and reservoirs scattered throughout the forest. Anglers will find that the largemouth bass, yellow perch, black and white crappie, bullhead, and trout are plentiful. The winter recreation season, which runs from December through March, provides downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. In summer there's backpacking and camping.
