John A. Roebling constructed this architectural wonder, which spans the Ohio River. It opened for business shortly after the Civil War, in 1866. Until Roebling completed his Brooklyn Bridge in 1883, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. If you're asking for directions, remember that all the locals just call it "the suspension bridge." The landmark will likely be closed for much of 2008, and perhaps some of 2009, for painting.
