Getting Here and Around
Getting to and from the park is relatively easy due to its close proximity to Medora, as well as exceptional signage. The South Unit entrance and visitor center is just off I-94 in Medora at exits 24 and 27. The Painted Canyon Visitor Center is 7 mi east of Medora at exit 32. The North Unit entrance is south of Waterford City on U.S. 85. Bus transportation is available along I-94, with a stop in Medora that is only three blocks from the park entrance. Planes fly into the North Dakota towns of Bismarck, Dickinson, and Williston. Amtrak serves Williston.
There's ample parking space at all trailheads, and parking is free. Some roads are closed in winter. You may encounter buffalo and other wildlife on the roadway.
