Having overcome its location in a former financial loan office a little north of the downtown bustle, Plant has become one of Asheville's best vegan and vegetarian spots, with a sophisticated, frequently changing menu. Look for starters like flamed seitan skewers with fried bananas, and entrées like chanterelle and lobster mushrooms with smoked-jalapeño mashed Yukon potatoes and herbed baby vegetables, or red-curry tofu with kaffir limes, jasmine rice, and teriyaki broccoli. For dessert, the made-on-site ice cream (with coconut milk) is fantastic. Decor is minimalist, with just one window and an open kitchen dominating the narrow dining room. There's outdoor seating on the south end of the building. The staff is amiable. Wine and beer only.
