The Magnetic Field
The Magnetic Field Review
An undiscovered gem in the River Arts District, The Magnetic Field adjoins an intimate 64-seat theater, which presents alternative drama, comedy nights, and poetry slams. The two most popular dishes on the café menu—flat iron steak with gnocchi, chanterelle mushrooms, sauteed greens, and heirloom tomatoes in a Cabernet sauce, and the shrimp and grits with tasso and gumbo sauce—rank among some of the best entrées in Asheville. The cocktail menu changes frequently, but it always has unusual offerings such as three different kinds of old-fashioneds and a drink called Monkey's Heart, with pisco from Peru, rum, bitters, and allspice.
