Nona Mia Ritrovo Review

Situated in West Asheville, "My Grandmother" has a full Italian menu, but the pizza's the thing. Choose between thick Sicilian style or thin-crust Napoletana style, both made in wood-fired ovens and both delicious. In good weather you can escape the noisy din inside by eating on the deck out back or at outdoor tables. For dessert try the freshly made gelato. Waitstaff is super-friendly if sometimes forgetful. Lunch is served on weekends only.

Avoid- Many better restrauants in Asjeville

A group of 8 dined for lunch at your restaurant today to celebrate a birthday. We all live in the area and have all patronized your restaurant numerous times. We selected it because of our past enjoyment of the food and good service. Today's dining experience was shockingly poor.
We had a least 4 different servers, including a trainee, who were all unable to serve our meal properly. Not only did they hand plates over the table, which should have been on the left side of each patron, it took an unacceptable length of time to serve soup, salad and pizzas. Apparently, one person's salad was an appetizer and another salad was a main course. One person's soup was an appetizer and another soup was a main course. The ones who had only pizza waited the most for the other dishes (courses) to be served. When we asked for bread to partially satisfy our hunger waiting for our meals, we were told that it would be delayed because the oven was not ready If you are open at noon, you should be ready to serve at noon. Meanwhile table of two were served there food while we continued to wait for our food. We spoke to Richard, who did not identify himself as the owner, but he and only apologized. The service continued to be poor and there were no attempts to compensate our party for the poor service. When one of our party asked for grated cheese (which should have been customarily delivered), it was delivered but then removed before anyone else in the party was asked if they desired grated cheese. We were all shocked when a 18% gratuity was added to our bills. We understand that this may be your customary practice but it should reflect exceptional service, our service was unacceptable. Also, it was unclear which of the 4 servers would receive the gratuity. There were many opportunities to remedy the poor service, but none were taken
Needless to say, none of our party will patronize your restaurant nor recommend it to our friends, family, co-workers or acquaintances.

In today's, poor economic environment, restaurants struggle to survive. It appears Nona Mia does not understand how to or care to retain its customers.
