A location overlooking Pack Square Park, bustling with families and downtown workers, helped make Pack's Tavern instantly popular. The multi-million-dollar renovation of a 1907 building, with original brick walls, high ceilings, and big windows with views of the park, provides a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying a menu that includes fried foods like potato skins, onion straws (splashed with lemon pepper and sprinkled with Parmesan), and the signature Mt. Mitchell Burger, an eight-ouncer with bacon, green tomato, a fried egg, and cheddar and Swiss cheese. You can also get steak, local trout, grilled chicken, and various salads. Pack's Tavern promises more than 30 draft beers and a full bar. There's a Sunday brunch in an upstairs meeting room and year-round outdoor dining.
