The North Carolina Mountains Nightlife

Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club

Updated 09/26/2012

Fodor's Review

This is by far and away the number-one nightspot in downtown Asheville. Bob Dylan, Hootie and the Blowfish, Modest Mouse, and the Beastie Boys have played here in a smoke-free setting for audiences of up to 1,100. In 2008 Rolling Stone named it one of the top-five rock clubs in the United States. For smaller events, it also has a great dance floor, with springy wood slats. There's a private club on the lower level called PULP.

The Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club Review

Robbed by staff. I’m a professional in his early 40s so I suppose it’s my own dumb fault for walking into a place like this. Upon entering, as a matter of policy I was stopped by a staffer, a guy in his 20s, who rammed his hands in each of my pockets on a search. I believe he stole some cash, though I can’t prove that, I was kind of shaken by the incident and so I’m unsure. The staffer did find and take my prescription medication, legally

prescribed to me by my doctor. The guy flatly told me he was keeping my meds and I was to move on. After I got my bearings I called a lawyer friend, who advised me to drop it, since the dollar amount of the theft wasn’t great and who knows what brand of small-town justice I might run into if I call the police. So if you want your rights violated and property stolen, this is the place for you.
