Located a little north of downtown, across from Trader Joe's and a supermarket row, Plant is Asheville's best vegan spot, with a sophisticated, frequently changing menu. Choose from a variety of small plates and entrées, including walnut-crusted seitan, poblano-stuffed tamales with sautéed spinach, or red-curry tofu with kaffir limes, jasmine rice, and teriyaki broccoli. For dessert, the made-on-site "ice cream" (made with coconut milk) is fantastic. Decor is minimalist, with just one window and an open kitchen dominating the narrow dining room. There's outdoor seating on the south end of the building. The staff is amiable. Wine and beer only.
