High Hampton Inn & Country Club

1525 NC 107 S, Cashiers, North Carolina, 28717, United States

With its rustic rooms and cottages, the High Hampton Inn (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) feels unplugged and family-oriented. You won't find TVs, phones, Wi-Fi, or air-conditioning in most rooms, and even cell reception is spotty. Meals are served buffet-style in a hunting lodge–like dining room. On the front lawn of this mid-19th-century inn are some of the most ancient trees in the region, including a giant Fraser fir with a circumference of more than 134 feet. Many of the buildings are bark-covered, and inside the main building, you'll find rare wormy chestnut and a large four-sided fireplace. There's an 18-hole golf course, tennis, and a 35-acre private lake (but no swimming pool), along with many hiking trails. There are some modern amenities, such as a 5,500-square-foot fitness center and spa. Rates in the rooms and cottages generally include all meals, while those in the vacation rentals do not.
