South of the entrance for the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, this place is popular for its well-prepared food and homey manner. Stuffed flounder, fried soft-shell crabs, homemade crab salad, burgers, and assorted sandwiches are favorites though the menu also lists pasta, chicken, beef, and pulled pork. Weathered wood-shingle siding outside and maritime art and objects inside give the feel of an old-fashioned beach house.

The food at Tide's was good. Nothing exceptional nor memorable. A little over-priced but that was somewhat expected. The table was tiny and we had to juggle and stack dishes to eat. What was memorable was the shocking rudeness and unprofessionalism of the owner of this establishment. As we tried to pay the tab, the cashier could not take our money unless we paid by credit card. We preferred cash. She didn't have access to the register and the owner
had 'gone out'. After a few minutes, he returned. When questioned about a small but obvious over-charge on the bill, the owner begin first defensive, then argumentative, followed by ignorant belligerence. Even though we were calm and paid the bill, he continued to rant and curse. No food in this world is worth supporting this type of establishment. I would recommend ANY restuarant on this island ahead of this one. I will NEVER return.
