Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge

Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge Review

Hyde County's Lake Mattamuskeet is the largest natural lake in North Carolina. Fed only by rainwater and runoff, the lake is 3 feet below sea level. Although it's been drained for farmland, the reclaimed lake is the centerpiece of a 50,000-acre wildlife refuge that echoes with the calls of some 800 bird and wildlife species.
