Merchants Millpond State Park

Merchants Millpond State Park Review

A man-made millpond built in 1811 and ancient Lassiter Swamp combine to form one of the state's rarest ecosystems. Cypress and gum trees hung with Spanish moss reach out of the still, dark waters that are ideal for canoeing. Rent a canoe or go fishing or hiking. Campsites are also available. A visitor center is scheduled to open in 2009. The park is on the mainland, 80 mi northwest of Kitty Hawk.
