Captain's Quarters Bed & Biscuit

Fodor's Review:

Richard (Capt. Dick) and Ruby (Miss Ruby) Collins, and their daughter Polly, welcome guests with an enthusiasm that is as genuine as their passion for Beaufort and Carteret County, an area Dick first came to know during his years as a Navy pilot in World War II. Each morning, along with a weather report, the captain serves breakfast, which includes fresh biscuits his wife and daughter make from an old family recipe. Antiques, most of them family heirlooms, fill the 19th-century home that the family restored. Reading material and reading lights are just two of the thoughtful touches you'll find. Pros: quiet home; a large white wraparound porch with a sky-blue ceiling has cozy rockers; the innkeeper is a great source of sea stories; major historic sites across the street. Cons: located on a busy street; common rooms can be a little warm in summer.
