Big Al's Soda Fountain and Grill Review

This fun and popular spot has '50s decor, Coca-Cola memorabilia, a game room, and a dance floor, not to mention a line out the door. Burgers, patty melts, seafood, and blue-plate specials like pork chops in brown gravy or meatloaf glazed with Coca-Cola barbecue sauce dominate the menu. Hot-fudge sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes, malts, and all sorts of other ice-cream confections hit the spot for dessert or an afternoon treat.

Big Al's Soda Fountain and Grill Review

I ate at this restaurant today and had the absolute worst experience. First of all, the crab cakes were disgusting, one of the worst I've had on the east coast or the west coast. Also, several other people in my party also complained that the food was mediocre and definitely not worth the price. Second of all, four of us are sick so far, two hours after eating there. Lastly, and worst of all, the service was absolutely abysmal. My sister and my boyfriend sat their entire meals without drinks, and the only time I got a refill was about two minutes before everyone was ready to leave. When I sent my crab cake back, from the manager, I didn't get a "sorry," instead, I got an "Are you sure? Ours are the best." No, they are not. Not even close. She rolled her eyes after I refused to take another crab cake or the fish (which my boyfriend was eating and said it tasted like Long John Silver's--but LJS has better hush puppies) or a hamburger (I don't eat beef). When I realized that my daughter was also very sick from eating here, I went back to get a refund on her meal. All I heard were excuses about different reasons it was MY fault I am sick after eating at their restaurant and kept insisting how good their food is (if you have to try to convince people, that's a sure sign it's not good). The manager was extremely rude to me through the whole thing and refused to give me any of my money back. So, I was charged an 18% gratuity for terrible service and $45 for chicken tenders and a couple of glorified fish sticks, and sent out the door so sick it ruined the rest of my day. If this is a trip back to the 1950s, then I'd rather spend my time in 2012.
