The Pelican Restaurant and Patio Bar

The Pelican Restaurant and Patio Bar Review

This 19th-century harborfront home in a grove of twisted oak trees has a patio next to an outdoor bar: many people take a seat here and don't leave for a long while. Jumbo shrimp stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeño peppers and lump crab cakes are two of the most requested food items. "Shrimp Hour," which is really two hours every day (3 to 5), draws crowds because large steamed shrimp sell for 15¢ each. The Pelican also serves breakfast—cereal, egg dishes, biscuits with homemade jelly, and corned beef hash—until 11 am. Acoustic music plays at times during the off-season but seven nights a week in summer.

We stopped in after the ferry ride from Cedar Island. It was lunch and we sampled a variety of items like the Carolina clam chowder (very good), the hamburger (also very good), fish sandwich (tasty but not very large) and a fish and shrimp platter (very good). Everything was home made and very tasty. No pricier than the rest of the area. Only had one waiter that day so service was a little slow. Would definitely go again.
