Sports and the Outdoors

Sea Scape Golf Links. Winds from the nearby ocean and sound make this short links course an unexpected challenge while sand dunes and a maritime forest provide a serene setting. The course was designed by Art Wall, Masters champion in 1959 and a regular on the PGA tour. It's kept in good condition, and features some tricky par 3s and dogleg par 4s, but offers a satisfying round to all levels of ability. 300 Eckner St., Kitty Hawk, NC, 27949. 252/261–2158. www.seascapegolf.com. 9 holes from $30; 18 holes from $59, depending on day and time. 18 holes, 6131 yards, par 70.

Currituck Club. Rolling fairways with bentgrass greens and sweeping view of Currituck Sound characterize this 18-hole semi-private championship course designed by Rees Jones. Anchoring the Currituck Club resort community, the course also serves as an Audubon Society Cooperative Sanctuary, which makes it an environmental host for a variety of wildlife. During summer, the club's PGA professionals schedule instructional clinics for adults and juniors of all skill levels. Additionally, Currituck's popular practice facility comprises an 8,000-square-foot putting green and bunker, plus a driving range. Family members of golfers who rent Currituck accommodations have access to beaches, lighted tennis courts, a fitness center, five swimming pools, biking and walking trails, and a valet trolley service. 619 Currituck Clubhouse Dr., Currituck, NC, 27927. 252/453–9400. www.currituckclubobx.org. $85 for 9 holes, $160 for 18 holes ($115 after 2 pm). 18 holes, 6885 yards, par 72.
