In the 1920s a building shaped like an 18th-century chest of drawers was constructed to call attention to the city's standing as the "furniture capital of the world." The World's Largest Chest of Drawers rises 40 feet high; dangling from one drawer are two 6-foot-long socks meant to symbolize the city's hosiery industry. The building now houses the offices for the High Point Jaycees.
