Fodor's Review

The two-story 1772 home 10 miles from Carthage earned its name because it was built in a bend of Deep River, the cotton plantation home of Gov. Benjamin Williams. In a late Revolutionary War battle in 1781, David Fanning's Tories defeated Philip Alston's Whigs in the colonial era's equivalent of a hail of gunfire. You can still view the bullet holes from the skirmish today.
