A real find for food lovers willing to stray from Chapel Hill's lively downtown, this small, independently owned restaurant serves high-class Italian fare with an emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients (the menu lists the nearby farms and purveyors used). Although the dishes change frequently, previous offerings have included pappardelle Bolognese and pan-seared scallops served with corn succotash. Much more than just a hotel restaurant, Il Palio is a destination in
its own right. Note that the staff can sometimes be a bit haughty.
