Historic Stagville
Historic Stagville Review
Owned by the Bennehan and Cameron families, Stagville was one of the largest plantations in antebellum North Carolina, at 30,000 acres and with about 900 slaves. The plantation today sits on 161 acres and has many original buildings, including the Bennehan's two-story wood frame home, built in 1799; four two-story slave cabins; the Great Barn, built by enslaved craftspeople; and the family cemetery. Guided tours of the property are given on the hour from 10 to 3.
