The Umstead Hotel and Spa Review
Though close to the airport, this modern and luxurious hotel feels light years away from the traffic of Interstate 40. Sleek and spacious, its interior is a treat. Expect paintings and oversize ceramic works by local artists and floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the 3-acre lake and towering long-leaf pine trees into the decor. A sumptuous sense of escape is heightened by the limestone and granite bathrooms, comfy beds with 330-count sheets, flat-screen televisions with DVDs and CD players, and balconies with lake views. Hotel guests can use the spa facilities or simply relax in a cabana by the vanishing-edge pool.
