Fodor's Expert Review Altamont Theatre

A "listening room" for local and nationally touring musicians, drama troupes, and comics, Altamont (what the writer Thomas Wolfe called Asheville in his novels) has just 150 seats. Housed in an 1895 building with original hardwood floors, huge wood structural beams, and large storefront windows on quiet Church Street, the acoustics are very good for chamber music, solo artists, and small performance groups.
