Fodor's Review

Frederick Philipse I, a wealthy Dutch merchant, began building this house in the 1680s. After the Revolutionary War his great-grandson Frederick Philipse III, a loyalist to the British Crown, had to leave behind the house and a 52,000-acre estate stretching from the Bronx to Croton. The home, the oldest in Westchester County, includes some of the finest surviving examples of American rococo architecture and decor.
