The region stretches from just north of New York City all the way to Columbia County's northern border, narrowing the farther north you go. Beacon and Newburgh demarcate the northern edge of the lower Hudson Valley, which includes parts of Rockland, Orange, Westchester, and Putnam counties. The Mid-Hudson Valley runs to the northern boundaries of Ulster and Dutchess counties, where it's bound by the Catskill Mountains on the west and the Berkshires on the east.
