Rockefeller State Park Preserve

Fodor's Review:

Hiking trails, fishing ponds, carriage paths, woodlands, and lush meadows make up the more than 1,000 acres of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve, 4 mi northeast of Tarrytown. The wetlands portion is home to a number of migratory bird species, such as the scarlet tanager and Baltimore oriole, which breed here. Panoramic views of the Hudson River can be seen from the former site of Rockwood Hall, William Rockefeller's estate. What's left of it is a dramatic Frederick Law Olmstead landscape that includes a century-old alley of copper beeches. The park is open daily from 8:30 AM to sunset; parking is $6.
