Fodor's Review

With its airy dining space, tall windows, and ceiling fans, this country-style eatery a few miles north of town instantly makes you feel welcome and comfortable. Many of the dishes and baked goods served here—like "church supper ham loaf" (a ham-and-sausage meat loaf) and shoofly pie—are inspired by the area's Mennonite community. Others, like pot roast or beer bratwurst, are pure American and German country cooking. The gift shop carries items crafted by local Mennonites.

Breakfast is served Monday to Saturday and brunch on Sunday.

Essenhaus Restaurant Review

Very disappointed! Our server was cold, borderline rude. She was impatient and seemed rushed. My mother found a HAIR on her plate, luckily before she started eating, so she politely told the waitress and she took the plate to the kitchen. The manager came to the table and said we would not be charged for my Mom's order. They prepared her a new lunch. When we got the bill, the charge was on there. They refused to remove the bill because in their opinion

"they fixed the problem". Even talked to owner who was a complete jerk and refused to listen to us and/or make the situation right. They said if my Mom did not eat her replacement meal it would have been credited (Did they expect her to sit there and not eat?) It was bad enough that she finally received her food when the rest of us were already finished with our meals. On our way out, the owner told my niece that she could have her cookie, Gee thank you for your generosity - WE ALREADY PAID FOR IT! Service was definitely lacking - these owners are not customer-focused, and this trickles down to their employees as well. This will affect this restaurant's longevity. You need to be customer-focused in the restaurant industry. Such a shame because it's a great location with nice country view. Other issues: Had to ask for water and drink refills. Water glass cracked, leaked all over table. Waitress gave us wrong bill at first. Our drink bill with another table's food order on it (??). One person did not receive her side order with meal. Will NEVER return to this restaurant.
