Lake George
The village of Lake George, in the Adirondack foothills, sits at the southern end of the lake of the same name. It's a family-focused tourist area, chockablock with motels, eateries, small outlet malls, and assorted amusements, including theme parks, miniature golf, and a wax museum. In summer, traffic through the village can crawl along U.S. 9.
Lake George also has historical significance. The area, because of its location on the lake, was inhabited before the European settlers arrived and later figured prominently in the French and Indian War. It also saw clashes during the Revolutionary War.
