The Grand Central Partnership (a sort of civic Good Samaritans' group) has installed a number of information booths in and around Grand Central Terminal (there's one near Vanderbilt Ave. and E. 42nd St.) They're loaded with maps and helpful brochures on attractions throughout the city and they're staffed by friendly, knowledgeable, multilingual New Yorkers.
Contact NYC & Company for brochures, subway and bus maps, discount coupons to theaters and attractions, and multilingual information counselors. In addition to its main center near Times Square on 7th Avenue between 52nd and 53rd streets, the bureau also runs kiosks at the south tip of City Hall Park, in Chinatown at the intersection of Canal, Walker, and Baxter streets, and in Harlem at 163 West 125th Street, near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. The Downtown Alliance has information on the area encompassing City Hall south to Battery Park, and from the East River to West Street.
