Fodor's Review

On the waterfront between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, this vast park is a great place for a riverside picnic or to just enjoy the view. There are several sections of the park, including Pier 1, Pier 6, the Main Street Lot (with DUMBO's free Wi-Fi network), and the newly renovated Empire-Fulton Ferry. The large playground at Pier 1 has a replica of a boat for make-believe voyages across the East River. In the Empire-Fulton Ferry part of the park is one

of the park's new highlights, the fabulously restored Jane's Carousel, originally built in 1922 and now housed in a plexiglass pavilion designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel. The carousel runs all year (mid-May–Oct., Wed.–Mon. 11 am–7 pm; Oct.–mid May, Thurs.–Sun. 11 am–6 pm) and rides are $2, or you can buy 12 tickets for $20.

From April to October the park is home to a wide range of arts performances, and on Thursday nights in July and August, Movies with a View projects New York classic films on an outdoor screen with no cover charge.
