Fodor's Review

The reigning arbiter of poetry slams, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe schedules open-mic events and hosts the influential granddaddy (b. 1989) of the spoken-word scene, the Friday Night Poetry Slam. Other performances, including hip-hop open mic nights, jazz acts, and theatrical performances, round out the schedule. Line up early for the Friday Night Poetry Slam and the Monday night open mikes; the small venue gets packed quickly.
