Fodor's Review

"Umami," known as the "sixth taste," is the sensation on our palate when we eat something savory. It's also the name of restaurant minichain whose New York location serves one of the best burgers in the city. The signature burger looks like a regular burger (except for the "u" branded into the top of the bun) but looks are deceiving. Dig, if you will, the umami-building process: carmelized onions are doused with star anise, the sweet-accented ketchup is made in-house,

and the patty is sprinkled with sea kelp powder and bonito flake, then sprayed with an oyster extract. The Manly Burger goes a step further, adding beer cheddar and bacon lardons. Starters include salads, fries, truffle fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings.
