Hotel Elysée Review

This intimate hotel is a favorite for travelers looking for good value in a desirable midtown location. Rooms have a classic European feel, with wooden headboards, rich carpeting underfoot and—in a few cases—fireplaces, tubs, and balconies. In the Club Room, complimentary coffee, tea, and snacks are available to all guests all day; there's an extensive buffet at breakfast, and free wine and hors d'oeuvres daily from 5 to 8 pm—good to know since room service is limited. Four of the old-world guest rooms have terraces. The hotel served as a home to Tennessee Williams, Ava Gardner, Joe Dimaggio, Vladimir Horowitz, and Marlon Brando over the years, and is currently the location of the Monkey Bar, one of Manhattan's most storied watering holes.

    I love this hotel

If you love a hotel in NYC that gets you out of the hustle and bustle, then you'll love this hotel. It has a very romantic, special feeling. It is not a business hotel. They know you by name when you walk in and out. There is a wonderful second floor library where they serve a very nice (free) breakfast every day, and a wine/appetizer event every evening (they even offer that on weekends now). The library overlooks the street and it is very pleasant and comfortable to hang out there anytime, unlike most hotel lobbies. It's in a great neighborhood. Ask for a quiet room and you will be able to hear a pin drop!

    Vintage Charm

This is the New York I love. Hotel Elysee is in a great location for shopping, the MOMA, wonderful restaurants. It has a charm that the larger chain hotels, even the more expensive ones, often lack. The Monkey Bar is a throwback to the elegance of the 40's, and their lovely library feels like a special club where you can sink into a comfy sofa, read the Times and have a cup of coffee with a croissant. It's small and cozy, and I can't wait to go back!
