Brasserie 8 1/2

$$-$$$, French, Midtown West

User Rating: *** 3.0

Fodor's Review:

Brasserie's quieter younger sister is a subterranean restaurant with some visual and culinary charms all its own. A dramatic staircase releases you into a spacious cocktail lounge with black leather sofas and a plush dining room beyond. The menu is flush with the creative cooking of Julian Alonzo, with dishes like steamed red snapper en croute, butter-poached arctic char in a scallop crust, and truffle-crusted loin of lamb. If you're feeling adventurous, try Alonzo's tasting menu, which incorporates elements of molecular gastronomy with solid French cooking.

a truly inauthentic experience

plastic food, plastic people, why not save your money and order a Big Mac? At least then, you'd know what you're getting, as something should distract you from the fact you're serving yourself in a lobby painted orange.
