Fodor's Review:

Operated by the same family since it opened in 1906, Barbetta offers an authentic Piedmontese experience in a dining room that evokes the old-world charm of Turin. The menu highlights dishes from the restaurant's past, as well as traditional Piedmontese cooking. Even simple pastas, like the eggy garganelli in a simple tomato-and-basil sauce, stand out. Roasted organic rabbit is tender and juicy in a wine-and-lemon-scented gravy. A beautiful garden affords a lovely summertime setting.

A Surprise in the Theater District

Posted by coachv from Missouri City, TX on 8/4/07
The restaurant is designed for people going to the theater. A price fixe menu gives you four courses and, trust me, if you don't slow them down you'll be done in 45 minutes. Once they knew we had time they let us enjoy the evening. The sommelier was excellent and recommended a Barbaresco that was outstanding. The wine list is exceptional. A very nice evening and we took out time and still made the show with time to spare.

look elsewhere

We had a reservation for 6 made three weeks in advance and were told we had to wait up to 60 mins . we were offered a table in the garden after 30 mins which was lovely. unfortunately the maitre d' misunderstood when we were to be leaving and almost evicted us until the hostess calmed him down and cleared up his misunderstanding. the service was perfunctory and the food average at best , the desserts were the highlight. not a smile from the staff the whole night nor any help with the oferrings. for a personal touch i would look elsewhere.
