Danny Meyer's intensely popular restaurant tops many a New Yorker's favorite restaurant list. In front, the first-come, first-served tavern presents a lighter menu. The more formal dining room has a prix-fixe American menu; three courses at dinner is $86. Choose from seasonal dishes such as lightly smoked Spanish mackerel, grilled sturgeon with lemon fennel sauce, or stuffed meatball with fontina cheese. Meyer's restaurants—he owns several well-regarded eateries in the city—are renowned for their food and hospitality, and Gramercy Tavern sets the standard.

Very surprised this restaurant is not on the Fodor's "favorite" list. It should be. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Specially liked the Papardelle with lamb ragu, it was incredible.

having avoided this place for a year, the NY Times Frank Bruni gave it a good review so went in this weekend and got a fairly simple and underdressed chicken breast plus a warm pineapple upsidedown cake and butter pecan icecream. Heaven.

Good appetizers, try the conrnish hen. Grilling with wood always contributes for a good flavor. Good beers also.
