Fodor's Review

Neon, wood, and Formica set the scene at this massive roadhouse in the Theater District. Start with stuffed jalapeños or—especially—unbelievably succulent barbecued chicken wings. Then, what the hell: go for the "Pig Out"—a rack of pork ribs, Texas hot links, pulled pork, rack of lamb, chicken, and, of course, more. It's that kind of place. There are also five domestic microbrews on tap and a good list of top beers from around the world. The place is absolutely

mobbed pretheater, so if that's when you're going, arrive by 6 pm or you'll miss your curtain.

Thanks for your recommendation Fodor...

Thanks for your recommendation Fodor. You was right on the money with this place. Everytime i visit NYC this is the place i always come to eat. For a place on Times Square it's not a tourist trap and gives IMO good value. If you like to eat and love meat... this is the place to be. I always 'Pig Out', but even the steak is good. Highly recommended.

Ain't Nothin' Like the Real Thing

I grew up on barbeque in the South; it's one of the things I miss most living in New York. Sad to say, Virgil's is a VERY pale imitation of the real thing. Despite their much-vaunted research into various regional barbeque specialties, the food here has been, in my experience, pallid and unremarkable - and, definitely a no-no in barbeque joints, skimpily portioned! As Woody Allen said, "Bad food, and not enough of it." Perhaps tourists can be

conned into enjoying this place, but True 'Cueheads Know Better!

We could smell Virgil's from our hotel for three days before going there to eat. We should not have waited so long. It was great. The waiter was right on the button when he reccommended the brisket..With mashed potatoes and baked beans WOW!!! You've got to try it.
