Crosby Street Hotel Review

The first branch of the UK's Firmdale Hotels to open in the United States, the Crosby Street Hotel is a whimsical boutique property with excellent SoHo views. While hotel design in New York can often mean a man's world of leather and dark colors, here the pieces, all handpicked by co-owner Kit Kemp, are colorful, light, and playful. Start with the wood-floor lobby, where solicitous staffers in gray suits check guests in, keeping a record of their likes and dislikes for future visits. To one side is the Crosby Bar, with oak floors, an elongated pewter bar, multi-hued fabric accents, and an impressive "cocktail program." To the other side of the lobby are the guest-only drawing rooms, chockablock with cushy couches. A garden by the bar is open to the public, but guests also have access to a separate back sculpture garden. Rooms are expansive, filled with sunlight, and each with a different set of color-coordinated patterns. They also all have cozy cushions for relaxing in the windowsills of floor-to-ceiling warehouse-style windows facing the streets of SoHo. The hotel is Gold LEED certified and even raises chickens alongside its rooftop garden.
