Yes, there really is a Super 8 in Times Square—though it no longer goes by that name. The rooms are motel plain with an unfortunate sea-foam color scheme, but most are well maintained and clean. However, if you're an unfussy traveler who wants to be in the thick of the madness, it's not a bad option. This small prewar hotel shares its block with a plethora of Brazilian restaurants and is near many theaters and Rockefeller Center. The peculiar lobby has a narrow corridor that snakes off around a corner and is decorated with some rather handsome art-deco Bakelite lamps. Pros: free breakfast; free wireless; free local calls. Cons: peremptory, low-frills service; noisy area.
