This sophisticated restaurant serves classic Italian fare with a modern twist. The menu is inspired by regional dishes from all over Italy, and fresh pasta is made daily. First-timers should try the fluffy gnocchi with red wine–braised braised octopus. Carnivores might want to tuck into dinosaur-size Piedmontese rib eye. Save room for the sweet course, particularly the Tuscan doughnuts with bittersweet chocolate. Your taste buds will shout "Grazie!" The attentive staff add to the pleasurable dining experience. The dining room has a retro Italian feel to it—with pale green leather-top tables and Eames swivel chairs—and additional seating on the patio when weather permits.

I generally like to think that Fodor's Choices above $$$ are pretty safe for special occasions - and a rare Italian pick got me super excited! But this place was only mid-scale, and (still) felt prettier than its bland food. And the most flavorful thing in our lengthy meal was the cheese plate - ouch.
