Aquavit and Aquavit Café

Fodor's Review:

Celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson may not be in the kitchen every night, but you'd never know it from the impeccable cuisine and service at this fine-dining restaurant and upscale café. The elegant atmosphere features warm woods and modern decor from a Scandinavian design team. In the café, try a two-course dinner of daily "Swedish home cooking" specials, or order à la carte to try the herring sampler, with boldly flavored selections like curry and apple, and vodka-lime. Hot-smoked salmon, served with celeriac purée, asparagus salad, and apple-horseradish broth, is a standout. The main dining room is prix-fixe only, with a three-course dinner for $82.

  • Keep in mind: Reservations essential.
  • Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V
  • Closed: No lunch Sat., except in café
  • Subway: E, V to 5th Ave./53rd St.
