Just 800 feet away from each other are these technically separate but very similar hotels. Both are boutique properties run by the W brand, with more discreet entrances and a calm residential presence in Murray Hill, a few blocks from Grand Central. The hotels have larger-than-typical rooms, as they were formerly residential apartments. With richly colored bedding and cranberry accents, and ottomans with chenille throws, they're not quite as edgy as other W properties—you'll have to go to Times Square or Union Square for that. However, they uphold the W chain's hip nightlife standards with Tuscany's Cherry Lounge, a rock-and-roll vision in red, and the Court's popular Wet Bar and excellent Icon restaurant. Pros: quiet, residential neighborhood; near Grand Central. Cons: not for hard-core W guests; 39th Street rooms are noisy; underwhelming lobby.
