Fodor's Review:

Best known as the site of the Monkey Bar, a legendary watering hole, this intimate, Euro-style hotel has relatively affordable rates, given its location. All guests have access to the comfortable Club Room, where complimentary coffee, tea, and snacks are available all day. You can grab a breakfast pastry there in the morning and free wine and hors d'oeuvres on weeknights -- a blessing, since room service is limited. Some of the old-world guest rooms have terraces.

Hotel Elysee was Wonderful

Posted by Colette from Wisconsin on 3/27/08
I had been staying at the LondonNYC, but it was very pricey, and seemed so impersonal. It was beautiful and clean and modern......but something was lacking. So I switched hotels midstream, and headed to the Hotel Elysee. I totally loved it. I couldn't get into my room until 1pm, (I arrived around 9am). Even tho I hadn't yet checked in, the lady at the front desk invited me to go on up to the 2nd floor breakfast room for breakfast. (How VERY nice since I technically was not yet checked in). The breakfast was awesome....fruit (kiwis, strawberries, blueberries, oranges, melon, grapes) cereal, oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, several flavors of brewed coffee, croissants, scones, pastries, etc. etc. etc. The brkfst room was like someone's beautiful living room with the sun streaming in the windows. My room was on the 14th floor, a king bed. I stayed 2 nights for about 325/345 a night. The room was very comfortable, each day there were 2 complimentary bottles of water for me, and the first day I arrived there was a delicious Belgian dark chocolate/orange candy bar waiting for me. (Hmmmmm). I had a small frig, as well as a mini-bar available. My room was very European in decor.....I loved my crystal chandalier! There were cookies, fruit, tea and coffee out all day, and then from 3 to 5 there was a cocktail/hors d'oeuvres offering, but I never was back to the hotel at that hour to enjoy it. I will definitely return to the Elysee someday. I was there alone, but it would also be a nice romantic vacation for a couple. Someone mentioned the slow elevator.....yes, there is only one, and it was kinda slow.....but that would never deter me from returning. One more thing...just before I left I wanted to send a postcard, so I asked the front desk if they could sell me a stamp.....they could tell I was kind of in a hurry (and I was truly just going to take the postcard and forget about it if they didn't have a stamp).....but the manager said, "don't worry about it.....we'll just send it for you". Beautiful, comfortable place, beautiful, comfortable service.

Lovely old-world elegance in mid-town

Posted by Clarin from Boston area on 12/27/06
Spent Christmas here; what a lovely little hotel. True old-world elegance on a small scale. The room & bath couldn't have been more lovely (Jr. suite on 15th floor, which is top floor); windows on 3 different walls; beautiful white coverlets w/opulent gold-threaded border (Frette?), and a stocked mini-bar as well as an empty mini-bar for our own use. Bed was wonderful, tho pull-out sofa was a tad squeaky). Lounge on 2nd floor offers an amazing breakfast (complementary) which is unlike any comp. breakfast you've ever seen - fresh-squoze OJ and grapefruit juice, 4 different coffees as well as perfect NYC bagels (toasted upon request), French pastries, cereal, yogurt, & a huge bowl that is continually filled with freshly sliced fruit! And the ambiance in the Lounge is quiet, refined elegance. The staff at the front desk are charming. The guests are predominantly Euro, which is a nice touch. $375/night for a very large, beautifully appointed room w/king bed & sitting area w/pull-out queen sofa, marble bath in the best location in the city (IMHO) is a very decent price. Hope to return for Christmas of 2007.
