Fodor's Review:

One of Staten Island's biggest attractions is free—the phenomenal view of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty afforded by the 25-minute ferry ride across New York Harbor. From Whitehall Terminal at the southern tip of Manhattan, catch the ferry every half hour on weekdays and weekend afternoons. On weekend mornings until 11:30 AM, ferries run every hour on the half hour. From 11:30 AM until 7:30 PM, they run every half hour.

  • Subway: 4 or 5 train to Bowling Green, or R or W train to Whitehall St., 1 to South Ferry
