$$-$$$, Lower East Side
Fodor's Review:
The hip Lower East Side finally gets a hotel cool enough to call its own. What's pleasantly surprising here, considering its off-the-beaten-path location, is just how refined, comfortable, and cutting-edge the rooms are. If you like baths, request a room with a super-deep, two-person Japanese soaking tub. Steam showers have glass walls that look onto the street (privacy curtains are available on request -- make sure to ask for them when you check in if you're at all modest) and bathrooms have heated floors. High-tech wake-up calls remotely open the blinds on the floor-to-ceiling windows. Most rooms have balconies. The public areas have an Alice-through-the-looking-glass feeling, with amorphous entryways and velvet settees. High-end, small-plate, well-reviewed THOR restaurant is worth visiting even if you're not staying here.
