If you love contemporary art, this might be your favorite Midtown hotel. More than 500 works of art, mainly contemporary paintings, from one of the owners' private collection, hang in rooms, hallways, and public spaces. Loftlike rooms with hand-troweled concrete walls are warm with additional decorations, and the bathroom floors are covered with reflective glass mosaic tiles. Push through the heavy teak doors and you'll find yourself in a soaring lobby. Rooms boast excellent showers with Bumble and Bumble amenities and mod touches all around, though some wear is visible in the carpeting and paint. Town, a rather posh American restaurant downstairs, provides room service. Pros: artsy, fun, lighthearted style; great art abounds; free wireless; wonderful central location. Cons: no gym; rooms slightly worn.
