A New York landmark in brown brick towering over the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, this sleekly modern hotel is fashioned from the bones of the former American Radiator Building. Rooms are minimalist chic with sumptuous travertine bathrooms, hardwood floors covered by Tibetan rugs, and killer views. Since it's at the busy hive of Fashion Week activities, expect a designer-filled crowd and a runway feel in the stark red lobby during those times, though normal-size guests are welcomed year-round. Both Koi, the restaurant, and the two bars are popular with the after-work crowd. This is one of the best locations in the city, set off the park (one of New York's most vibrant spaces), near Times Square, Grand Central, and 5th Avenue shopping. Pros: gorgeous building; fashionable crowd and setting; across from Bryant Park. Cons: expensive; Cellar Bar frequently booked for events.

My daughter and I just retunred from or annual New York City trip. We have been going for years and have always tried new hotels in new areas to explore. This year we stayed at the Bryant Park Hotel and it was the worst experience yet! For $450 we were told it was a room without a view but they took that to the extreme! Our room had floor length windows and when we opened the sheers we looked out over scaffolding. We went out to a Broadway show leaving at 6ish and returning at 11:30pm to find that our room door was propped open. After security was called it ws determined that a maid had left chocolates in our room and left leaving the room door ajar. Creepy feeling to come back at midnight to an open room. The night manager called later to offer a complimentary breakfast. We selected a brakfast for 8:30 am and at 9am called to see where it was and heard "oops sorry". For a high end hotel we were very disappointed and would never stay there again.

The location is absolutely perfect: Times Square, MoMa, MoSex, 5th Avenue, restaurants and bars were nearby. The service was very good. The doormen and other staff were responsive and friendly. The room was a good size for a hotel room. The bed wasn't too comfortable although the sheets were nice (320). The floors are hardwood and creaky which means we heard other people walking around. The overall look is chic. The Cellar Bar has an interesting vibe and we did not go but we have heard good reviews about Koi (decent food, good atmosphere. The weaknesses were minor and we look forward to staying there again.
