Fodor's Review

Pioneering chef Peter Hoffman, a longtime leader in promoting local, sustainable food, attracts a devoted crowd to this casual neighborhood restaurant, where the homey decor features a pastoral mural behind the bar. The simply prepared dinner selections include a perfect grilled trout, moist pan-roasted chicken, and a wide array of seasonal sides, perhaps including roasted Brussels sprouts with maple-cider vinegar. Wash it all down with a house cocktail like the excellent, bourbon-based "Back Forty." Brunch is served on weekends and there are frequent seasonal special events like crab boil dinners in summer. Weather permitting, snag a table in the leafy garden out back. The new Back Forty West, on Prince Street, between Lafayette and Crosby, is garnering equally stellar reviews.
