DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel New York City–Times Square
1568 Broadway, at 47th St., New York, New York 10036, USA
Space is the draw at this 45-story Times Square top dog--seriously. Every room is a suite, with a separate bedroom and living room (each with a big flat-screen TV), occupying about 400 square feet and overlooking Times Square and Broadway. It’s an especially desirable location during the New Year’s Eve ball drop.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The Times Square location is convenient and central for exploring midtown Manhattan but is often very crowded and it can be difficult to move around quickly.
By New York City standards, rooms are large and have several conveniences that aren’t always found in Manhattan hotels including mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. The sofa in the living room folds out into a bed, providing a great option for families.
Business travelers that need extra space (for business) may be interested in this property’s Conference Suites.
Neutral-toned, basic bathrooms have marble countertops, spacious vanities, and large mirrors.
The modern but generic lobby has lots of couches for comfy seating plus free Wi-Fi (there’s a pesky fee for Wi-Fi in the rooms). The lobby also has a theatre desk for guests that are looking to experience Broadway.
Ginger’s Restaurant serves three meals a day including eggs Benedict for breakfast and comfort classics like steak sandwiches and quesadillas for dinner. A coffee kiosk is also available in the lobby.
A modern lobby bar and lounge provide space for guests to sip coffee or martinis.
Towering over Times Square, this hotel is in a convenient location for exploring the landmarks of midtown and the theater district. Central Park and Bryant Park are both within walking distance. Subway access is convenient with the N, R, and W trains at 49th Street and the B, D, F, and M trains at 47-50th Sts/Rockefeller Center. Taxis and Uber are widely available in the neighborhood but traffic congestion is a common problem.
Splurge on seafood at Oceana (4-minute walk), a spacious white tablecloth style restaurant with excellent oysters, whole grilled fish, and lobster. For a casual meal order the spicy cumin lamb noodles at Xi’an Famous Foods (7-minute walk). Modern Mexican fare is served in an upbeat environment at Toloache (6-minute walk); try the hamachi ceviche and the carnitas tacos.
In a neighborhood of generic sports bars The Rum House (3-minute walk) is a refined spot for classic cocktails. Sake Bar Hagi (3-minute walk) is an unfussy destination for beer and sake that stays open late.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Considering the location, rooms at this hotel are surprisingly quiet. We love the generous space including separate living rooms and the extra conveniences of mini-fridges and microwaves.
